Oregon Coast Lake Day Trip

September 11-12, 2009, Oregon Coast, OR
======================================================================
I traveled from Lebanon to Waldport via State Hwy 34 through Philomath
and Alsea. I continued west through the Siuslaw National Forest, past
Tidewater and Drift Creek. Nearing the ocean I find Alsea Bay. This
picture is looking east back into the mountains.
Now looking west toward the ocean. I knew I was getting near the ocean
when I got to Tidewater as the river started getting wider and all of the
homes
along the river had boat docks by them.
The seacoast town of Waldport. I couldn't believe how hazy it was.
The air temp was probably 70 degrees.
I traveled north on Hwy 101 and stopped at the first viewpoint
to take this picture. It was probably around 5pm at this time.
The Oregon coast does have some rocks.
As I left the viewpoint I looked in my rearview mirror and
saw this...
This picture is for a friend of mine who thinks the Oregon
coast has no beaches.
The town of Otter Rock from the Otter Crest State Park viewpoint.
Devils Punchbowl State Park is between the points. In the distance,
the point is Agate Beach with the Yaquina Head lighthouse, about
4.5 miles away.
A little "Lookout" on the grounds with a gift shop. It was closed.
I decided to wait here about an hour till sunset.
We must be 500 fett above the sea!
Looking down off the cliff to the sea.
The cove on the other side of the "Lookout".
A nice house with a view...
Great ball of fire!
With a little help of a tripod...
Just after sunset. If you look closely you can see the light of the
lighthouse near the end of the distant point.
From the vantage of the higher viewpoint, the sun just sets.
I drove up the coast another hour to Lincoln City and stayed
the night in a hotel. The next morning I walked alongside the
hotel to the beach.
It was a bit overcast but still warm and calm.
I believe the tide was out.
Seaweed of some type. I'm guessing 20 foot long?
The hotel.
Scummy looking sea foam washed up on the beach.
A shorter version of the same type of seaweed. This was maybe
15 inches long.
Having left the coast near Beaver, Oregon, I started my journey
back south. Somewhere north of Valley Junction I followed a stream.
I'm not sure if there's trout in there.
Off the hazy coast, the clear skies and sunlight frame the tree-lined
roads.
